EKOTICIA: NOISE POLLUTION IN PARIS
November 6, 2006 - issue 112 - EEP NEWSLETTER
Trains, cars, planes, industry, neighbours ... Sources of urban noise pollution are many and varied, and until now each source has only been considered in isolation. For the launch of its first campaign of noise measurement through the Ile de France, the new regional noise observatory, Bruitparif, will take into account exposure to multiple sources. The goal is to reach a global understanding of environmental noise at the 250 measurement points throughout the region, explains Fanny Mietlicki, director of Bruitparif. Between October
2006 and December 2007, two technicians and two acoustic engineers will travel throughout the Ile de France, carrying six noise-measurement kits. After analysing the data, they will be able to calculate the average noise level during the day, in the evening, and at night, as well as the global average over 24 hours.(Environnement Magazine, France, http://www.environnement-online.com/)
